新疆綿、三陽商会やTSIも使用中止 アパレル大手で拡大
There is a growing trend among domestic clothing companies to discontinue using cotton produced in China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Following Mizuno and others, three companies including Sanyo Shokai and TSI Holdings have recently decided to stop using the cotton. The Uyghur region is under increasing scrutiny from consumers and others due to suspicions of forced labor. The fact that major fashion retailers that have a strong influence on the industry have decided to stop using cotton may have a ripple effect on other companies.
Cotton produced in the Uyghur Autonomous Region is called "Xinjiang cotton." Sanyo Shokai will stop using it for its spring/summer products in 2022. Shinji Oe, president of Sanyo Shokai, told The Nikkei, "We have gathered a range of information on human rights issues, but we don't know the reality of the situation. As long as the situation is ambiguous, we will not be using it," he said.
